'I started illustrating thanks to books. I have a vivid memory of walking into a bookstore in Melbourne. I remember the absolute silence and the shelves filled with incredible books. I remember picking one up, running my fingers over the cover, and feeling its texture. I was mesmerized by its colors, by the typography. I flipped through its pages and saw all the illustrations paired with the text. From that moment on, one thing became clear to me: I wanted to be the person who illustrated those books.'
MOM: I WANT TO READ YOU.
This editorial project involved designing and illustrating the covers, as well as creating the editorial layout and illustrations inside the book. It’s a psychology book that aims to foster an intimate, personal connection with a mother. That's why I used hand-drawn typography and imperfect strokes. The backgrounds are textured, and the lines are irregular. I wanted the book to reflect something handcrafted, homemade, and imperfect—a reflection of how our relationships truly are.
